What do I need to do before I begin procurement?
Before procurement, all strategic elements of the organisation, including the organisation’s current assets should be considered. A compilation of existing information must also be completed. Other tasks include assessing digital options, establishing the CDE, and completing the digital schematic design. An EIR should also be generated, ensuring that it is in line with the OIR, AIR, and AIM (if brownfield) documents.
How do I ensure that my project progresses successfully from one stage to the next?
A Gateway Review process is discussed in section X of the Guidance document. This examines the project at six key decision points throughout their lifecycle and provides independent advice for key decision makers regarding the current progress.
What does a good outcome look like?
A successful implementation and application of DE and BIM would result in the generation of useful data for the client in Stage 7, operations and maintenance. An accurate digital twin of the built project/asset developed through enhanced decision making throughout the lifecycle aided through utilisation of BIM tools and techniques. Ultimately, a safer construction practice, with reductions in time and wastage.
